Calculate the BMI (Body Mass Index)

The BMI (Body Mass Index) is used nowadays to calculate whether a person has a normal weight or is overweight. The previously used Broca- Index (=height - 100) applies only to people with an average height, as it is not suitable for shorter people.

Muscular people (body builders) may obtain false estimations when using the BMI. In these instances it is necessary to take the body fat percentage into consideration.

Information needed to calculate the BMI = Body Mass Index:

Height: cm
Weight: kg
Please do not use commas when giving in information. E.g. do not put 65,5 but 65.5
Sex: male

Your Body Mass Index:

The ideal weight for men using the BMI is between 20 and 25, for women between 19 and 24.

A Body Mass Index of 26 is considered normal for people older than 40.

The evaluation of the body weight using the Body Mass Index is not suitable for those under the age of 17.
