The BMI (Body Mass Index) is used nowadays to calculate whether a person has a normal weight or is overweight. The previously used Broca- Index (=height - 100) applies only to people with an average height, as it is not suitable for shorter people.
Muscular people (body builders) may obtain false estimations when using the BMI. In these instances it is necessary to take the body fat percentage into consideration.
Calculate the Body Mass Index:
The ideal weight for men using the BMI is between 20 and 25, for women between 19 and 24.
A Body Mass Index of 26 is considered normal for people older than 40.
You will see the evaluation of your body weight in a pop-up window after the calculation has taken place.
The evaluation of the body weight using the Body Mass Index is not suitable for those under the age of 17. |
